English Song

English Song

(Verse 1)
1If you were one,
2To make my day
3You would do all,
4But turn away.
5But now you are gone
6Like sun in the rain,
7And here you have left me,
8With all this pain…

(Chorus)
Whatever made it all,
Okay?
To just turn your back on me,
And say
"We're just not right,
Let's stop this fight,
Don’t make things worse,
Tonight…"

9I've never felt this way,
10You know.
11The fact that you're gone,
12Fills me with woe.
13And if you should ever hear,
14This song,
15You'll know in your heart,
16Your choice was wrong.

(Chorus x2)
Whatever made it all,
Okay?
To just turn your back on me,
And say
"We're just not right,
Let's stop this fight,
Don’t make things worse,
Tonight…"

Song Analysis
For my song, I decided to take inspiration from one experience in my life, and two songs. The songs that fist came to mind while writing my song were "Gone So Young" by Amber Pacific, and "Stay Together For The Kids" by Blink-182*. Both of these songs hold great emotional strength because "Gone So Young" talks about the loss of a friend in a tragic accident, and "stay Together For The Kids" is about a family that has broken apart physically and emotionally, and with both of those songs comes a great amount of sadness and despair. Apart from that, when I first started writing, I heard the songs and the in my head, and that made it easier for me to think about what word would go with that melody and that tempo. After that, I thought of the strongest emotions that I had all at one time with one experience. Those emotions were anger, sadness, and frustration. It started in what feels like a long time ago when someone that I really needed help with a few problems that I was experiencing. We were basically best friends, and I had hit a rough patch in my life. This was a point in time where I seriously needed someone that I could talk to. We were so close that I felt like I could trust them with anything in the world. But of course, as you hear it in most stories, when you need that one thing in the world that can give you comfort the most; it turns its back on you, and is gone. This person knew that I'd do anything for them, and they took advantage of that. But I learned in the end that they were not as true of character as I initially thought they were, only taking what they wanted and only being nice when they needed something, until it was I who needed the assistance. And when I asked, they were quick to easily turn their back and walk away. All in all, I felt betrayed, deserted and unappreciated, not a feeling I ever want to experience again. Especially all at one time.

But onto the matter of the lyrics, I think that I have portrayed my feelings and emotions from that time into this song with such lines as "1If you were one, 2To make my day 3You would do all, 4But turn away." And "13And if you should ever hear, 14This song, 15You'll know in your heart, 16Your choice was wrong." I think that both of those sections show the emotional impact that this event had on me. It is not something that I'd enjoy experiencing again. But that event in my life has also taught me to choose my friends more wisely in that aspect that I would know that they'd have my back through anything, no matter what, and I'd do the same for them. But that was a hard learned lesson that made me more cautious and taught me that not everyone in the world will do for you what you do for him or her. Though I'd still say that if I had to do that all over again, I probably wouldn’t have changed anything about that person, because of what they taught me.

Reflection

I think that this project made me really think about what i wanted to say, and put into song. it was something that really made me think and be imaginative. But in the end, I ended up writing about something that i felt really strongly emotionally wise. That gave me the inspiration that i needed to write the lyrics out for my song. It was time consuming nd stressful, but in the end I think that it was fun and it turned out alright.
